چکیده

Understanding phase stability and precipitation at intermediate temperatures is crucial for tailoring microstructures mechanical properties of L12-strengthened multicomponent alloys. In this study, the precipitate type, morphology, distribution (CoCrNi)100−2x(AlTi)x (x = 3, 5, 7 at.%) medium-entropy alloys (MEAs) 600-900 °C were systematically investigated through a combination scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, diffraction, backscatter thermodynamic calculations. Our results reveal that Al Ti additions promote destabilization supersaturated fcc into L12 σ phases, dominating phases MEAs change from + to L21 as concentrations increase. addition, increasing temperature leads morphology lamellar granular microstructures. The effects alloying aging on stability, behavior, discussed kinetic points view.

Coarsening resistance at 400 C of precipitation-strengthened Al–Zr–Sc–Er alloys

The effect of substituting 0.01 or 0.02 at.% Er for Sc in an Al–0.06 Zr–0.06 Sc at.% alloy was studied to develop cost-effective high-temperature aluminum alloys for aerospace and automotive applications. Spheroidal, coherent, L12-ordered Al3(Sc, Zr, Er) precipitates with a structure consisting of an Er-enriched core surrounded by a Sc-enriched inner shell and a Zr-enriched outer shell (core/do...

Precipitation strengthening at ambient and elevated temperatures of heat-treatable Al(Sc) alloys

Yield strength at ambient temperature and creep resistance between 225 and 300°C were investigated in dilute Al(Sc) alloys containing coherent Al3Sc precipitates, which were grown by heat-treatments to radii in the range 1.4–9.6 nm. The dependence of the ambient-temperature yield stress on precipitate size is explained using classical precipitation strengthening theory, which predicts a transit...

Comparison between dislocation dynamics model predictions and experiments in precipitation-strengthened Al–Li–Sc alloys

Precipitate distributions were quantitatively measured by local electrode atom-probe (LEAP) tomography in several age-hardenable Al-based alloys to provide input to both analytical models and dislocation dynamics simulations of critical resolved shear strength, for comparison with experimentally measured Vickers microhardness values. The method of reconstructing precipitate-containing volumes f...

Experiments and Model for Serration Statistics in Low-Entropy, Medium-Entropy, and High-Entropy Alloys

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are new alloys that contain five or more elements in roughly-equal proportion. We present new experiments and theory on the deformation behavior of HEAs under slow stretching (straining), and observe differences, compared to conventional alloys with fewer elements. For a specific range of temperatures and strain-rates, HEAs deform in a jerky way, with sudden slips tha...

First-Principles Phase Stability Calculations of Pseudobinary Alloys of (Al,Zn)3Ti with L12, DO22 and DO23 Structures

The thermodynamic and mechanical stabilities of the Al3Ti-Zn3Ti pseudobinary alloy system is investigated from first-principles through density-functional theory calculations within the generalized gradient approximation. Both supercells calculations and sublattice cluster expansion methods are used to demonstrate that the addition of Zn to the Al sublattice of Al3Ti stabilizes the cubic L12 st...
